How to access the winter night shelter

OWNS runs from January to March each year for men and women who are rough sleeping.

In order to access a bed for the night in one of our shelters you will need to be in touch with St Mungo's, the City Council's outreach team, and be verified by them as rough sleeping.

Their telephone number is 01865 243229.

Each day, St Mungo's contacts the Project Manager with the names of people who would like a bed for the night. If that number exceeds 20, there will be a list of "reserves". Those on the reserve list will be contacted by one of the OWNS volunteers and offered a bed should one become available.

There is no limit to the number of nights anyone can stay, provided they abide by the rules.

The shelter is run from a different location in the city centre on each day of the week. You will be informed of the location by St Mungo's. OWNS operated from the following venues in winter 2019:

In addition to OWNS, during times of extreme cold, the City Council set up SWEP (severe weather emergency protocol) where temporary accommodation is provided at a number of different venues.
